I just wanted to comment on something unusual that occurred this Christmas season.
Now, every year, I typically type up an annual Christmas letter. I am a writer, you know, so that annual letter is something I always look forward to drafting up. This year was going to be extra special, given my trip to Europe – I’d been looking forward to sharing some pics with family and friends.
But as December rolled around, I was feeling sluggish, still recovering from a recent surgery, and I almost didn’t send out cards at all. Finally, I begged my husband to help with the cards, and they got sent out…void of a Christmas letter. I felt bad, but I couldn’t worry about it; I still had to find the energy to go shopping for gifts.
As Christmas grew closer, the cards came in the mail. I opened each one and added it to our wall of cards. Here’s where the unusual thing happened: This year, for whatever reason, no one else sent us a Christmas letter, either! It was the oddest thing! I don’t want to over analyze it, but I thought it was worth bringing up, to see if anyone else saw a decline this year in Christmas letters, or even Christmas cards altogether.

We received a lot of cards and only one letter. Maybe the rush of the holidays caught up with everyone? Or maybe, like my family at least, we’ve been in touch through facebook we know TOO much about each other’s business!

I agree with you, that maybe it was the rush of the holidays – and yes, Facebook! Add to it the looming “fiscal cliff” and disasterous weather and the current state of the economy…

I was actually surprised (and delighted) that we still receive cards! It takes an effort, doesn’t it, to craft, mark and send them out.
Ah well, hope you have a wonderful New Years.
My best to you-
Sue
